Set against the rugged coastal landscape of Whangārei Heads, the Reotahi Residence called for a roof and wall cladding specification that could hold its own architecturally while feeling at home in its surroundings.
Apex Roof ‘N’ Clad installed a full LUX Superseam system across both the roof and walls. Using 0.55g Kiwicolor LUX Superseam 444 in Corten Rust to the roof, and 0.55g LUX Superseam 400mm in Corten Bronze to the walls. The warm, oxidised tones of the Corten palette were a deliberate choice, drawing on the natural colours of the headland environment and giving this large-scale home a distinctive presence without competing with the landscape around it. Throughout the installation, careful detailing was prioritised to achieve a refined finish with minimal exposed fixings.
The complexity of the project lay in the integration. The LUX Superseam system needed to work seamlessly alongside multiple other cladding styles across the building, requiring precise junctions and consistent detailing at every transition. The roof was also designed for symmetry across its valley sections, with window and door flashings carefully incorporated to maintain the clean lines the architecture demanded. Copper spouting and downpipes complete the package – a premium material choice that adds longevity and a refined finishing touch that will only improve with age.
